Most of the spending rightfully going towards the war in Iraq or hurricane relief. Still, payments to widows of state legislators and compensating people for injuries for bird flu vaccine is a little strange.

My favorite is "Peanut Storage Costs". Those senators, they love their peanuts, I guess!

visnu, sounds like typical govt puffery. instead of saying "procurement of weapons and tracked combat vehicles" they could have said "bought guns and tanks".

Here is a story that digs even more in-depth.

"$100 million for the political party conventions — $50 million for the Democratic convention in Denver and $50 million for the Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn. — is included in a section described as “Katrina recovery, veterans’ care and for other purposes.”

Im not gonna cry about the money that actually comes back to the United States. Its hard to complain about an extra $20 billion for the people when so much of it is being burned in the desert.

Anonymous, that makes sense. Gimme your wallet and I'll make sure I spend your money "for the people". :)
